Cohens Moral Panic.
A moral panic is the intensity of feeling expressed in a population. It is about issues that may appear to threaten the social orders and conventions. Stanley Cohen who coined the term, says a moral panic occurs when "a condition, episode, person or group of persons emerges to become defined as a threat to societal values and interests.". He named deviant groups folk devils. Moral panic in media is divided into three sections; occurence and signification, social implications and social controls.
Occurence and signification randomly occurs and is seen by the media good enough to publish. The event is shown to worry people so gets alot of attention.
Social implications are connections that are made between events which become an occurence and get more popular and serious making the audience start to focus on the particular cubject. For example knife crime rising.
Social Controls is when a moral panic has a resolution which involves changing the law. This pleases the audience who feel threatened by the media.
Moral Panic has several distinct features. These are:
Concern- Must be awareness that the group of people or subject causes a negative impact on society.
Hostility- Hostility towards the group increases and they become folk devils. A division in society.
Consenus- It is accepted that the group in question of moral panic poses a threat to society.
Disproportionality- Action by the accused group to the moral panic is inconsistent.
Volatility- When the moral panic is unpredictable and disappears because of a decline in media.
Taylor Momsen is seen as a social threat to mothers who think she sets a bad example for the younger generation of girls. She stars in the teenage tv programme Gossip girl and starred in the film Grinch at the age of 7. At 17, she is a full time smoker, dresses in provocative outfits such as lingerie to go out in and illegally drinks. This is not a good role model to young girls and teenagers because she is seen to be setting the wrong example and some young girls may aspire to be like her.

Feminism in media.
Laura Mulvey created the "Male Gaze" theory in 1975. The concept of the gaze is deals with how an audience views the person presented on a magazine. For feminists, it can be thought of in three ways. These are:-
-How a man looks at a woman.
-How women look at themselves.
-How women look at other women.
Laura Mulvey believes that women play a massive part and men play only an active part in any advertisement with the women playing objects. Mulvey distinguishes between two modes of looking for the film spectator: fetishistic and voyeuristic. Fetishistic involves the substitution of a fetish object or turning the featured figure itself into a fetish so that it becomes reassuring rather than dangerous. Women are treated more as objects than people. Women these days are seen as needing to be skinny and have the perfect figure. Most magazine front covers feature a artist who is sexy with the perfect figures who men would love. In 2009, Lily Allen done a photo shoot for Q. It was seen as too provocative and banned. In 201, Lady Gaga's Q magazine shoot was also deemed as too sexy and provocative and was banned in the US. NME seen this and decided they wanted to challenge the attention and shock people. They chose Music Artist Beth Ditto to feature on the front cover and inside their magazine naked. This shocked people and hundreds complained but this was the reaction NME wanted. Beth wanted to prove that big is beautiful. 'Men don't know what it feels like to be a woman and be expected to look a particular way,' the Gossip star tells NME. 'The Beckhams are part of the machine; Paris Hilton is part of the machine.' She then also went on to do a similar shoot for Love magazine.

College Magazine Front Cover.
This is my mock up of a college magazine front cover. It is my version of the deyes high newsletter front cover. I have used the school colours Red, White and Blue to relate to the school and make it recognisable. I have used a strapline, puffs, pugs, a sell line and Masthead. These all have bright backgrounds to make them stand out and look exciting. In the Pug i have included the Deyes High Logo to represent the school. I have also included the schools motto "Care,Courtesy And Common Sense" in the strap line to again make the school recognisable for something. I have used different shapes such as stars to put all the writing in instead of a plain Text Box because it makes the front cover look more interesting and eyecatching. The image included is a picture i took in a photoshoot round school of two of my fellow sixthformers. I shot them standing infront of the Sixth Form Deyes High Sign which includes the name and the logo. I thought this was a good image to use because it includes the Logo and says "Welcome to Deyes High School" which might make new children and newly parents feel welcomed and involved.

Semiotic Theory
The semiotic theory was created by Saussure. It uses signs and colours to signify the meaning of something. For example a red rose signifys love because of the colour red. Also the yellow of the sun. Yellow is a bright, pastell colour which signifys happiness and brightness.
For example:
The colour Red signifys anger, love, romance, lust.
The colour Grey signifys rain, clouds, depression.
The sun signifys warmth, happiness, brightness, the colour yellow.

Contents Page Analysis
Here i have analysed 2 music magazine contents page's. I analysed the magazines NME, and VIBE. I found that the NME contents page was alot more filled and colourful whereas the VIBE magazine contents page was dull and quite boring. I believe that the NME magazine would be more popular than the VIBE magazine as from what i have discovered analysing them both the contents pages and front covers, NME is alot more hip and eyecatching. It also contains alot more information and features of all types of artists than the VIBE magazine seems to has.
